What is Yoga Anyhow? Yoga is not a cult. It is a form of exercise for your body and mind. You are not required to learn creeds, sing songs, learn special routines, or do weird stuff.

Yoga is a study which uses movement, stillness, concentration, release and abandon to help you get in touch with yourself. Some say it keeps you in touch with the inter-dependent web of existence. Others say it’s a great workout, reduces the effects of stress, stretches and frees your muscles, and teaches you ways to concentrate better throughout your day. Some athletes and performers study yoga to stretch and tone muscles hardened by heavy use. Many use Yoga to help them recover from injuries and avoid future injury because it’s a balanced approach to simultaneously improve strength, flexibility, balance and concentration.

When Marlene Ripley teaches Yoga she helps you reach the objectives that you set for yourself.

Can You Do Yoga? Marlene’s Yoga class is designed to be "do-able" by anyone, yet continue to challenge the more seasoned Yoga student. Her approach to teaching Hatha Yoga recognizes students’ individual needs and abilities. Marlene uses props, easy to follow instructions, and lots of personal attention to make sure that all students succeed from the very first class.

Guidelines and Policies Eat lightly within 2 hours before class time. Conversely, do not under eat, because you will need a healthy reserve of energy in class. Avoid caffeinated drinks.

Wear clothing that allows the teacher to see your arms, shoulders and knees. Shorts or leggings and a T shirt are good. We work in bare feet.

Arrive at least 5 minutes before class begins and plan to stay for the full length of class. Classes are planned with a clear beginning, middle and end. Coming in late and leaving early is not only disruptive for the class, but it also deprives you of a complete yoga experience and lesson.

If you have any physical or emotional conditions that might affect your class experience, please inform the teacher before class begins. Yoga sequences and postures can always be individually adjusted.

The teacher often designs classes with individuals in mind. Therefore, please let her know if you are going to miss a class.

Try to attend all classes. Yoga is like learning a foreign language or musical instrument. There is a layering of information. A logical progression from one class to the next.
